FMAS Professor Delivers Pre-Congress Lecture on Delirium for Nurses
The Anuradhapura Medical Association (AMA) organised a pre-congress lecture for nurses titled “Delirium: Identification and Management” as part of its Annual Academic Sessions 2026. The lecture was delivered by Prof. Amila Isuru, Professor and Head of the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine and Allied Sciences (FMAS), Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, on Thursday, 15 October 2026.
The session was held at the Professorial Unit Auditorium, Teaching Hospital, Anuradhapura, under the theme of this year’s AMA Annual Academic Sessions: “Science, Professionalism and Humanity towards Advancing Medical Practice.”
Delirium is an acute condition that is often under-recognised among hospitalised patients. As nurses are frequently among the first healthcare professionals to observe its early signs, the lecture focused on strengthening their knowledge and skills in the timely identification and effective management of delirium in clinical settings.
Prof. Amila Isuru’s contribution to the academic programme highlights the expertise of FMAS academic staff and the Faculty’s continued engagement with the Teaching Hospital, Anuradhapura, and the wider medical community in the region.
Through such academic contributions, FMAS continues to support professional development, promote evidence-based clinical practice, and strengthen collaboration with healthcare institutions and professional associations.
