The academic programme for the undergraduates of FMAS take place within the faculty premises as
well as the THA and field practice areas. In addition to timetabled teaching/learning activities, students
are encouraged to pursue their interests in research, sports, religious activities and the performing
arts.

Faculty of Medicine and Allied Sciences, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka was commenced on September 2006 with 171 students. Medical faculty students’ union was established to take leadership in welfare of students and development of the faculty.

As the faculty is situated in an area with a rich cultural heritage Religious committees undertake many activities such as:

  • Pirith ceremony
  • Annual sharddha religious programme
  • Annual poson bathi gee programmed
  • Monthly religious activities
  • Christian subcommittee organizes the annual carol programme
  • Islam subcommittee organizes the annual IFTAAR programme

These events are organized for the purpose of exposing students to multi religious and cultural events.

This is run by a group of aesthetically skillful medical students. Aesthetic programs are conducted by this committee, such as

  • ‘Padura’ musical program
  • ‘Isimbusara kala mangalya’

Their effort is to share the enthusiasm and, pleasure of aesthetic experience with medical students and academic staff.

In character building of well-disciplined individuals, and for co-existence goodin society, sports gives a good base. Due to this reason the Sports Committee contributes to encouraging sports activities within the Faculty. It provides an avenue for students who excel in sport activities. We are proud to announce that our medical students have already shone in the national arena.Without limiting academic activities with the aim of building a sound mind in a sound body, this committee annually organized some co-curricular activities, such as,

  • Inter batches sport meet
  • Inter faculty games
  • Inter university sports festival

This committee gives a helping hand for the academic progress of their colleagues. The Book Foundation provides vital medical text books to medical students. Education committee works with the academic staff for the benefit of students and help to solve educational problems.

This committee student responsible for the maintenance of the food quality of the faculty canteen. They take care of food hygiene in food processing. They ensure provision of good quality foods.

Social events are conducted annually by this committee. These programs help to improve attitudes towards the society. Some of annually organized activities are

  • Blood donation campaigns
  • Annual elders’ home ‘sharmadhana’
  • ‘Sharmadhana’ campaign at Aabhayagiriya historical premises and also help to with other social activities conducted by other universities.

Pirith ceremony, blood donation program, and the padura cultural program are the special events organized annually to celebrate the anniversary of the faculty. Blood donation campaign is held with the kind co-operation of the blood bank of Anuradhapura teaching Hospital, students of the faculty, academic and non academic staff and also the nearby villagers.

Padura program is place which brings together both students and academic staff to enjoy the classical beauty of Asian music. Famous poets participate and comment on the consistency of songs while enlightening this occasion. It is a tradition to welcome a new batch warmly to the faculty by organizing the most colorful and cultural event which is named isimbusara. This fascinating cultural event which is organized by students with the help of the Student Union, Is the best occasion to show and widen their talents in art, music, dancing, drama and many other skills.

As another tradition all new comers are taken on a pilgrimage to worship Sri maha bodhi and Ruwanwelisaya, by their immediate seniors, annually. The main purpose of carrying out such an event is to give a chance to the students coming from every nook and corner of the country, to get familiar with the sacred city of Anuradhapura. The most splendid religious event is the annual shaddha program. Thousand of lotuses are offered to the sacred Ruwanwelisaya. This magnificent religious event is organized by the newly entered batch of the faculty.

In order to eliminate discrimination among all races of students, The New Year Festival is celebrated with the participation of students of all religious faiths. All the traditional events and games of Sinhala and Hindu New Year are conducted.
