Clinical and laboratory services
The department provides services to the Teaching Hospital Anuradhapura, to all hospitals in the North Central Province, and to the private sector in the form of,
- Diagnostics (microscopy, serology and molecular)
- Identification of snakes, insects and marine animals of medical importance
- Expert advice in managing parasitoses and snakebite
- Expert advice and assistance to National and Local parasite control programs related to parasitoses, vectors and envenomings.
The department is also associated with the Cutaneous Leishmaniasis Control Programs of the NCP conducted by the Regional Director of Health Services Offices of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa at the advisory level and also by training the health care providers including public health medical laboratory technicians.
Outreach programmes
The department frequently conducts outreach educational programs for the community, school children, and teachers in the North Central Province in the prevention of parasitoses and snakebite.
