The Department of Pharmacology was founded in 2006. It was originally established with one visiting Professor (Prof. R.L. Jayakody) and two probationary lecturers. The department is evolving rapidly to face the challenges of the future.
The aim of the department is to develop an understanding of fundamental mechanisms in chemical physiology and pathology, in the action of drugs, and in toxicology. Rational prescription is one of our main objectives.
