Article Types
Original Research
– Original research manuscripts present scientific findings from novel studies. The text should not exceed 3000 words and may include up to five tables and figures, along with a maximum of 30 references. Manuscripts should be structured according to the IMRAD format (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion).
– An abstract of up to 250 words is required for all original articles. Structured as Introduction, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
– Keywords: Include five keywords.
Systematic reviews and protocols
– Systematic reviews and protocols should follow Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). Manuscripts should be structured according to the IMRAD format (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion).
– An abstract up to 250 words are required for all systematic reviews. Structured as Introduction, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
– Keywords: Include five keywords.
Reviews
– Narrative review papers should offer a thorough and critical analysis of a significant topic within the field, providing readers with a comprehensive understanding. They should systematically select and critically evaluate all included articles and data sources. The text should be limited to 3,500 words and include up to 35 references.
– An abstract (unstructured) of up to 250 words is required for all narrative review articles.
– Keywords: Include five keywords.
Perspectives
JoTH invites manuscripts that present opinions, propose hypotheses, discuss controversial topics, or introduce new advancements in medicine. These manuscripts should be limited to 1,200 words, with no more than three tables or illustrations and a maximum of 25 references.
Brief reports
– Brief communications may present original data that is insufficient for a full paper, secondary analyses of previously published data, or preliminary findings from ongoing research. These manuscripts should be written as unstructured essays, limited to 1000 words, with no more than two tables or illustrations and a maximum of 15 references.
– An abstract (unstructured) of up to 150 words is required for all brief reports.
Case reports
– These are brief reports of clinical cases with unique features that have not been previously described but make significant scientific contributions. The reported cases should enhance current knowledge in the relevant field. Manuscripts should be limited to 1,800 words, with no more than four tables or illustrations and up to 15 references.
– An abstract (unstructured) of up to 200 words is required for all case reports.
– For Case reports, the authors are required to follow the CARE guidelines (https://www.jclinepi.com/article/S0895-4356(17)30037-9/pdf) when preparing their manuscripts and to complete the CARE checklist (https://www.care-statement.org/checklist) before submission.
Preparation of Manuscripts
JoTH propose manuscript preparation according to the “Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals” set by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors. In-text citations should be numbered using Arabic numerals in parentheses, and references should be listed numerically at the end of the manuscript. Please refer to the ICMJE guidelines at http://www.icmje.org.
Referencing
JoTH follows the Vancouver citation style. It is recommended that a reference management software be utilised.
Submission Preparation Checklist
– The manuscript has not been previously published and is not under consideration by any other journal.
– The names, affiliations, email addresses of all authors, and the ORCID ID of at least the corresponding author are correctly entered into the submission system.
– The text is single-spaced, uses a 12-point font, and employs italics instead of underlining (except for URL addresses). All illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at appropriate locations, rather than at the end.
– The manuscript follows the stylistic and bibliographic requirements set out in the Author Guidelines, available in the “About the Journal” section. Efforts have been made to ensure that author names are removed from the manuscript to maintain blind peer review.
– All authors meet the authorship criteria as defined in the authorship guidelines and have consented to being listed on the submitted paper.
– The submission file is in Microsoft Word format.
– Manuscript must be page-numbered and line-numbered.
– All submissions should accompany a completed and signed JoTH author declaration form (available in ‘Downloads’)

All authors publishing in JoTH agree to the following terms:
– Authors retain copyright of their work and grant the journal the right of first publication. The work will be simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License, allowing others to share it with proper attribution to the authors and its initial publication in the journal.
– Authors may enter into separate, non-exclusive agreements for the distribution of the journal’s published version of the work (e.g., posting it to an institutional repository or publishing it in a book), provided that proper acknowledgment of its original publication in this journal is included.
