Strengthening Research Through Partnerships: At the Leptospirosis Research and Diagnostic Laboratory, we believe in the power of collaboration to enhance scientific discovery and improve health outcomes. Our partnerships with leading institutions around the world and within Sri Lanka underscore our commitment to advancing the field of leptospirosis research.
Our Key Collaborators Include:
- Yale School of Medicine: Our ongoing partnership with Yale School of Medicine has been pivotal in enhancing our research capabilities and methodologies, particularly in the areas of diagnostic innovation and epidemiological studies.
- International Vaccine Institute: Collaborating with the International Vaccine Institute allows us to contribute to and benefit from global efforts in vaccine development and disease prevention strategies for leptospirosis.
- University of Colombo: A vital ongoing local partnership that enriches our understanding of leptospirosis within the urban settings of Sri Lanka, facilitating joint research projects and shared expertise.
- University of Ruhuna: This collaboration focuses on leptospirosis in a unique setting where pulmonary hemorrhage is prevalent. This collaboration includes clinical and public health initiatives in southern Sri Lanka, aiming to tackle the regional challenges of leptospirosis.
- University of Jaffna: Our work with the University of Jaffna is crucial for targeted research on leptospirosis in the northern regions of Sri Lanka, which is largely neglected.
Funding Partners
- National Institutes of Health (NIH): The NIH provides critical funding that supports both the establishment of our laboratory and our foundational research projects, as well as key operational activities. This enables ongoing advances in leptospirosis research and diagnostics
- WHO’s Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (WHO TDR): The initial funding from TDR helped us to train our researchers as well as many researchers from Sri Lanka.
- Open Philanthropy (through the International Vaccine Institute): Funding from Open Philanthropy, administered via the International Vaccine Institute, supports our ongoing project on leptospirosis in pregnancy.
- National Research Council, Sri Lanka: NRC is supporting our collaborators at the University of Colombo, who provide the funding for our diagnostic efforts.
